Privacy Policy
The short version
Type Specimen reads font files to display previews. That's it.
- No data collection
- No analytics
- No network requests
- No font files are uploaded anywhere
The app runs entirely on your Mac. Your fonts stay on your Mac.
What the app accesses
When you preview a font file using Quick Look, Type Specimen reads that file from your local filesystem to extract and display:
- Font glyphs (the actual characters)
- Variable font axes (if present)
- Color tables (if present)
- Metadata (name, designer, license, etc.)
This information is displayed in the Quick Look panel and is not stored, logged, or transmitted anywhere.
Network activity
Type Specimen makes no network requests. It does not check for updates, send crash reports, ping analytics servers, or communicate with any remote services. The app functions identically whether your Mac is online or offline.
Third-party services
The app does not integrate with any third-party services, SDKs, or analytics frameworks.
The website uses two third-party services for beta signups: EmailOctopus (mailing list) and Apple's App Store Connect API (TestFlight invitations). See "Beta signup" below for details.
Beta signup
If you sign up for the Type Specimen beta on this website, the following data is collected: your first name, last name, and email address. This data is shared with two services:
- EmailOctopus receives your name and email to add you to the Type Specimen mailing list. Used to send product updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
- Apple (App Store Connect) receives your name and email to send you a TestFlight beta invitation. Apple processes this data under its own privacy policy.
Beta signup is entirely optional and separate from the app itself.
Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted here. Significant changes will be announced via the newsletter.
